Carcassonne

The existing garden, surrounding a beautiful French farmhouse dating back to the 13th century, comprised of mature trees, wide lawns, a tennis court, pool area and driveway. The large grounds enjoyed privacy and greenery but lacked coherence, excitement and creative planting.

Our first task was to design a Masterplan; creating new spaces and connecting old. We sought to reveal views and vistas to the vineyards and the countryside beyond. A new dry garden replaced unsightly car parking and the courtyard terrace to the rear of the house was replanted. Over 2,500 plants and trees brought the whole together allowing for new walks, spaces to relax, sit and entertain.

Plant highlights: Lomelosia minoana, Lomelosia cretica 'Jeanne et Jean', Phlomis purpurea subsp. Almeriensis and Teucrium cossonii were amongst a selection of plants supplied by Olivier and Clara Filippi's Le Jardin Sec. Over 450 Pittosporum tobira created clouds of planting to line a walkway.

We returned in 2022 with designs for design a new nut orchard, woods, terraced garden and an avenue of trees along new gallops.
